USM President Rich Patenaude "What was remarkable about growing up as a Franco-American in Seattle in the 1950's was the fact nobody ever mentioned it. It wasn't on the radar screen and my family seemed unaware. In Seattle people are more concerned about Norwegian, Swedish, Native American, or British-American (from British Columbia) issues. Learning about my own family's history and coming to understand my Franco-American heritage has been one of the great and wonderful discoveries as a result of coming to Maine. USM is proud to be part of capturing and sharing that rich and important history."

-Rich Pattenaude, President, University of Southern Maine
2005
