Rêves et Réalités de la Franco-Amérique
*On 8-9 March 2002 we sponsored Rêves et Réalités
de la Franco-Amérique at Lewiston-Auburn College
as one of the USM Convocation events in the series Diasporas:
The Meaning of Home. This three-day event showcased some
of the contemporary creativity and scholarship of Franco-America
from members of Le
Consortium de la Franco-Amérique and Maine's Franco-American
community.

& Yvon Labbé, Maine

From the Consortium came novelist Clark Blaise
from San Francisco, singer-songwriter Michel Marchildon from
Saskatchewan, museologist Andrée Gendreau and CEFAN
director Simon Langlois from Québec, playwright Greg
Chabot of Waterville, geographers Eric Waddell & Dean
Louder from Laval University, historian Melinda Jetté
from Oregon, and cinematographer Andre Gladu & geo-poet
Jean Morisset of Montréal. Their presentations included
songs and stories, films and website presentations, poetry
and essay-readings. Events expanded into presentations and
workshops with Maine artists and writers, politicians, films
and plays, an open supper, theater, music, and dancing. This
event was a celebration of French North America and helped
develop our vision of its future.
