The Global Studies minor investigates the rich varieties of trans-border development and migration, nation states, and world cultural communities. Modern situations are the result of historical events and decisions made today around the world are not made in an historical vacuum. As the State of Maine is rapidly drawn further into this wide milieu, globalization issues are ever more vital for reshaping our local, regional, and global networks. Core issues include the different points of view embodied in concepts such as globalization and internationalization, as well as the challenges of sustainability, diversity and justice. The dynamic between local and global issues is a central issue of modern society, crucial to our region and important to us in developing a personal rapport with our evolving heritages and economies.
To enroll in the minor and have it documented on a student transcript, no more than six (6) credit hours from your major may be applied toward the minor.
Students in the minor are required to participate regularly for at least two semesters in a related co-curricular activity such as:

Documentation of related learning will be included in the Capstone portfolio.
Students in the Global Studies minor are encouraged to enhance their global perspective by taking language instruction through a variety of programs such as those at CMCC, Bates, ISOLA language discussion groups, or at the USM Portland campus.
