Greetings from the Chair

It is hard to believe that Senior College at USM LAC is starting its eleventh year!  We have grown since the first years when only four or five courses were offered.  This fall fourteen courses on a great variety of subjects will be presented.  However, more important than the increase in the quantity of courses offered is the consistency of the quality of these offerings.  All classes are taught by volunteers, and it is amazing the amount of talent we have in the area.  All seniors over 50 are welcome to test the waters and join in activities that are informative, innovative, and just plain fun.  Be sure to read carefully the courses offered each day of the week. You may find it will spark an interest not obvious to you by just reading the name of the course.  Then mail in your registration for the courses you desire to take.  Please be aware only mailed-in registrations will be accepted!

For the Spring courses, we entered into a collaborative adventure with Schooner Estates whereby at least one course would be taught at that facility.  This proved to be very successful, and this fall two courses will be presented there.  Schooner Estates was most hospitable and made the class members feel very welcome.  Schooner Estates will also provide transportation for its clientele, and will provide money for any seniors needing help to pay for the courses. 

The Board of Directors works very hard to make sure Senior College at USM LAC is a viable and worthwhile venture.  However, the Board plays only a small part in making sure the endeavor is a success.  We need many more volunteers to ensure Senior College becomes a program vital to all seniors who desire to participate.  We can always use more help.  If interested, please call 753-6510 to find out where you could be of serviceto this great organization.
