Earth Day takes place on April 22, but the University of
Southern Maine has been celebrating the environment all school
year long with a host of events that included films, discussions,
workshops, conferences, demonstrations and lectures. USMÕs
2003-04 Gloria S. Duclos Convocation on Environmental Sustainability
began last fall and will run through the end of the spring
semester. This year's Convocation Scholar is Nancy Artz, a
USM associate professor of business administration.
Highlights for April include a lecture with Rev. Paul Bortz,
founder of Vermont's Spirit in Nature, an organization that
encourages religious and spiritual groups to use their faith
to make an environmentally safer world. Bortz's lecture takes
place at 1:30 p.m., Thursday, April 29, in Luther Bonney Auditorium,
Portland.
Other April events range from an ecopsychology workshop on
healing through nature, a chance to win a free home energy
