USM Students Inducted into Honor Societies

August 3, 2004

The following USM students were inducted into the following Honor Societies at the annual 2004 Recognition Day ceremonies this spring. Recipients are listed below in alphabetical order by hometown. Students from outside of Maine are listed at the end of this page listed by their state

Auburn:
Naomi Susan St. Hilaire, a social and behavioral science major, was inducted into the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi. She is a 2000 graduate of Central Maine Christian Academy and the daughter of David and Patricia St. Hilaire of Auburn.

Bath:
Margaret K. Barbor, a nursing major, was inducted into the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi. She is a 1998 graduate of Morse High School and the daughter of Christina Barbor of Bath.

Elizabeth Rae Morgan, a history major, was inducted into the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi. She is a 2000 graduate of Pine Tree Academy and the daughter of Chris and Penny Morgan of Bath.

Buckfield:
Melissa Schau Reuter, a leadership and organizational studies major, was inducted into the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi. She previously attended the University of Maine, and lives with her husband George in Buckfield.

Cumberland:
Sharon Lindsey Sauerwald, an art education major, was inducted into the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi. She is a graduate of the University of Rochester and Oregon State University. She lives in Cumberland with her husband Mark Sauerwald.

Christine Curtis, a communication major, was inducted into the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi. She is a graduate of Vesper George School of Art, and lives with her husband Verlon Curtis in Cumberland.

Dover-Foxcroft:
Tana Manchester, an art history and masterĠs in teaching and learning major, was inducted into the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi. She is a 1999 graduate of Foxcroft Academy, and the daughter of Carla Manchester of Dover-Foxcroft, and Tris Manchester of Parkman.

East Waterboro:
Walter Scott Tibbets, a political science major, was inducted into the Golden Key National Honor Society. He is a 1974 graduate of Bonny Eagle High School, and lives with his wife Cynthia Tibbets in East Waterboro.

Ellsworth:
Kolawole Adewale Bankole, a graduate health policy and management major, was inducted into the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi. He is a University of Benin and University of Benin Teaching Hospital of Nigeria graduate, and lives with his wife Nancy Hunt in Ellsworth.

Gorham:
Shirley L. Dempsey, a social science major and education minor, was inducted into the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi. She is a 1977 graduate of Gray-New Gloucester High School, and lives with her husband Larry Dempsey in Gorham.

Gray:
Denise C. Duda, a studio art major and art history and writing minor, was inducted into the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi. She is a Texas Tech University graduate, and lives in Gray with her husband George Duda.

Sara Larson, a psychology major, was inducted into the Golden Key National Honor Society. She is a 1999 graduate of Gray-New Gloucester High School and the daughter of Roland and Carole Larson of Gray.

Rebecca Lee, a technical leadership major, was inducted into the Golden Key Honor Society. She is a 1977 graduate of Gray-New Gloucester High School, and is married to Darrell Lee of Gray.

Livermore: Kate Nickerson Dumais, a leadership and organizational studies major, was inducted into the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi. She is a graduate of Central Maine Technical College and the daughter of George and Danna Nickerson of Bethel. She lives with her husband Chad Dumais in Livermore.

Litchfield: Robert Leo Quinn, a math major, was inducted into the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi. He is a 1977 graduate of Oak Hill High School and the son of Robert C. Quinn of Portland, and Gloria E. Sparrow of Litchfield.

Mechanic Falls:
Jinaya OĠNeal, a natural and applied science major, was inducted into the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi. She previously attended Wheaton College, and is the daughter of Clifton and Glenice Fournier.

Poland:
Penny J. Sargent, an arts and humanities major, was inducted into the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi. She lives in Poland.

Port Clyde:
Ruth Shaw Freeman Thomas, a fine arts major, was inducted into the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi. She holds degrees from the Maine Central Institute, Husson College, and the University of Maine at Augusta. She lives in Port Clyde.

Portland:
Emily Monahan Ainsworth, a communication and international studies major, was inducted into the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi. She is a 2000 graduate of Portland High School and the daughter of Thomas and Kathryn Ainsworth of Portland.

Anya Cornell, an electrical engineering major, was inducted into the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi. She previously attended the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, and lives with her husband Paul Cornell in Portland.

Sara M. Karam, a school counseling graduate major, was inducted into the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi. She is a graduate of Albion College in Michigan and resides in Portland with her spouse Jody Brinser.

Elly Khojastchzad, a sociology major, was inducted into the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi. She is a 2000 graduate of Deering High School and previously attended the University of Hawaii.

Lauren Lohmeyer, a sociology major, was inducted into the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi. She is a 2000 graduate of Deering High School and the daughter of Randa and James Lohmeyer of Portland.

Anna Sarkisov, a nursing major, was inducted into the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi. She is a graduate of Yerevan Medical College in Armenia and lives with her husband Konstantin Sarkisov in Portland.

Joseph T. Swanson, a philosophy major, was awarded the Phi Kappa Phi Graduate Fellowship Award of Excellence. He is one of 100 students nationwide to receive the award. He will be attending Boston College to pursue a graduate degree in philosophy. He is a 2000 graduate of Deering High School and the son of Mark T. and Lise Swanson of Portland.

Saco:
Denise Lynn Desroches, a music major, was inducted into the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi. She is a 1999 graduate of Thornton Academy, and the daughter of Marguerite and Robert Desroches of Saco.

Scarborough:
Sue L. Remington, a geography and anthropology major, was inducted into the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi. She is a 1977 graduate of Oxford Hills High School, and lives with her husband Douglas A. Remington in Scarborough.

South Paris:
Brittany Stevens, an exercise physiology major, was inducted into the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi. She is a 2001 graduate of Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School and the daughter of Terry and Dean Stevens of South Paris.

Standish:
Candace Cranford Gray, a social work and criminology major, was inducted into the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi. She lives with her husband Paul Frechette in Standish, and is the daughter of Nina H. Cranford of Livermore.

Thomaston:
Anna Judith Carney, a sociology major, was inducted into the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi. She is a 2001 graduate of Georges Valley High School, and the daughter of James and Ruth Carney.

Topsham:
Debra Lynn Csenge, an art major concentrating in painting, was inducted into the Golden Key Honor Society. She previously attended the University of California, Santa Barbara, and lives in Topsham with her husband Richard Csenge.

Westbrook:
Andrea E. Dahms, a political science major, was inducted into the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi. She is a 2001 graduate of Westbrook High School and the daughter of Kenneth and Diane Dahms of Westbrook.

Daniel Paul Vachon, a social work major, was inducted into the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi. He has attended the University of Maine at Augusta, Husson College, and Mid-State College. He is the son of Jacqueline Vachon of Lewiston, and Conrad Vachon of Spring Hill, FL.

York:
Dana Rickerich, a graduate clinical counseling and school counseling major, was inducted into the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi. She is a graduate of Stanford University, and lives with her husband Steven Rickerich in York.

Florence, Massachusetts:
David Edward Hirtle, a philosophy major, was inducted into the Golden Key Honor Society. He is a 2000 graduate of North Hampton High School and the son of Richard and Diane Hirtle.

Raleigh, North Carolina:
Michael D. Sprinkle, an industrial technology major, was inducted into the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi. He is a 1974 graduate of Jesse O. Sanderson High School, and lives with his wife Cynthia in Lisbon, Maine.

Cincinnati, Ohio:
Victor J. Wyatt, an English major, was inducted into the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi. He is a 1976 graduate of Walnut Hills High School, and lives in Portland, Maine.

Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania:
Sheldon Hartman, a philosophy major, was inducted into the Golden Key Honor Society. He is a 1977 graduate of Pompano Beach Senior High School and the son of Dale and Ruth Hartman.
