USM Lifeline Center Holds Conference on Employee Health
Self-Management
April 7, 2004
To address the growing field of medical self-care and consumerism,
USM's Lifeline Center for Wellness and Health Promotion presents
the conference "Employee Health Management and Medical Self-Care,
Effective Strategies for Enhancing Workplace Health and Productivity."
The conference will examine how medical self-care programs
contribute to improved employee health and productiveness
in both the workplace and at home. In fact, the U.S. Department
of Health and Human Services found in 2003, that employee
self-care programs provide companies with a $2-$19 return
for each dollar invested.
Conference learning objectives include an overview of important
concepts and applications for medical consumerism, increasing
awareness of cost benefits associated with medical self-care
programs, and ways to implement, promote, and evaluate these
programs.
Speakers include George J. Pfeiffer, president of WorkCare
Group, Inc., and past consultant for the U.S Department of
Health and Human Services and the National Institutes of Health;
Maureen J. Kenney, healthcare strategy manager at Bath Iron
Works; and Phyllis Wolfe, USM employee and overseer of Bath
Iron Works employee wellness program.
