News ReleasesFirst Issue of The Southern Maine Review ReleasedJune 9, 2005 The University of Southern Maine has recently released the first volume of a yearly journal, The Southern Maine Review: A Journal of Scholarship and Creative Expression. The juried journal publishes written and visual material from across disciplines submitted by students, faulty and staff from USM, other University of Maine System campuses, and the general public. This issue includes essays with subjects as varied as the Somalis of Lewiston, how those from away fare in state politics, Maine's creative economy, and whether New Hampshire's Old Man in the Mountain was ever really a natural wonder. Poetry, short works of fiction, and black and white representations of local artist Deborah Randall's paintings and University of Maine Professor of Photography Michael Grillo's photographs round out the spring 2005 issue.
