News ReleasesUSM American and New England Studies Alumni Discuss Their WorkJanuary 14, 2005 University of Southern Maine students and the public have a rare opportunity to hear what college alumni are doing as they pursue careers enhanced by their master's degrees. Three graduates of the American and New England Studies Program (ANES) will present "In Service of the Past," the second annual ANES Alumni Lecture, at 7 p.m., Thursday, January 27, on the seventh floor of the Glickman Family Library, Forest Ave., Portland (snow date will be 7 p.m., Thursday, February 3). The public is invited, and a reception will follow. Featured speakers are Thomas B. Johnson, curator of the Old York Historical Society; Christie Mitchell, architectural historian at the Maine Historical Preservation Commission; and David Richards, assistant director of the Margaret Chase Smith Library. These alumni each represent different types of cultural institutions, all of which connect the present to the past, and will discuss their professional experiences shaping and preserving history in Maine.
