USM's Susan Campbell Earns National Recognition in Academic Advising

Susan M. Campbell, executive director of Advising and Academic Resources at the University of Southern Maine, was awarded the Virginia N. Gordon Award for Excellence in the Field of Advising from the National Academic Advising Association (NACADA) as part of the 2005 National Awards Program for Academic Advising.

Founded in 1979, NACADA is a national non-profit association of more than 8,000 higher education academic affairs professionals, among them faculty members, professional advisors, administrators, counselors, and others in academic and student affairs. NACADA seeks to promote quality academic advising and professional development of its membership to ensure the educational development of students. This award is presented annually to a NACADA member who has made significant contributions to the field of academic advising.

Campbell, Cumberland, joined USM in 1977 and has previously served as director of Admission, Advising Services and also as assistant to the dean of USM's Lewiston-Auburn College. Since 2001, she has served as the executive director of the Division of Advising and Academic Resources.

Campbell will be honored and presented with this award in Las Vegas during the annual NACADA National Conference in October.
