GarciaFest to Feature Music and Free Barbecue

EVENT: The Fourth Annual GarciaFest, a 14.5-hour radio marathon, and free public barbecue presented by the University of Southern Maine community radio station, WMPG, 90.9 and 104.1 FM.

WHEN and WHERE: Sunday, July 31. Broadcast will air from 8:30 a.m.-11 p.m. on WMPG, 90.9 and 104.1 FM, and streaming at www.wmpg.org.

Barbecue will take place 12 noon-8 p.m. rain or shine on the lawn between USM's Luther Bonney and Payson Smith Halls on the Portland campus.

MORE INFORMATION: The GarciaFest broadcast will be hosted by WMPG volunteer Patrick Babcock, host of the show "Mainely Dead" which airs every other Tuesday night, 10 to 11:30 p.m., on WMPG. This annual marathon pays tribute to one of rock 'n' roll's most famous and creative musicians, Jerry Garcia, best known as leader of the psychedelic San Francisco rock group, The Grateful Dead.

The broadcast features rare soundboard recordings of Grateful Dead shows played without interruption, and in their entirety. The show will move outdoors during the barbecue. DVDs, CDs, and WMPG memorabilia will be raffled off during the barbecue.
