On Thursday, February 10, 2005 at 10:30 a.m. at the Preble Street Resource
Center, the Center for the Prevention of Hate Violence will release a
report on bias motivated violence and discrimination against Maine's homeless
individuals.
The 80-page report, compiled over the preceding 18 months, is based on
over 150 interviews with homeless persons and social service providers
throughout Maine.
The report details an extremely disturbing level of violence and discrimination
against homeless people motivated by anti-homeless bias. The report recommends
adding the category of homelessness to the Maine Civil Rights Act.
