News ReleasesAuthors of Books Showcasing Baxter State Park Read at USM April 13 , 2006The authors of four books about the Baxter State Park region will read from their work from 7-9 p.m., Thursday, April 20, on the seventh floor of USM’s Glickman Family Library, Forest Ave., Portland, The event is free and open to the public and light refreshments will be available. Eric Pinder, author of “North to Katahdin,” Howard R. Whitcomb, who compiled and annotated “Percival P. Baxter’s Vision for Baxter State Park: An Annotated Compilation of Original Sources,” and John Neff, author of “Katahdin: Legends, Exploration, and Preservation of Maine’s Highest Peak,” will read from their work. Another book, “Ktaadn Trails: Lucius Merrill and the Paths to Katahdin,” features the photographs of 19th century photographer Lucius Merrill, a professor of geology and chemistry at the University of Maine, with an essay by Richard Judd and photo captions by USM’s own Zip Kellogg, a research librarian in the Glickman Family Library. Judd and Kellogg will speak at the event. Each of the authors will give a brief presentation, which will be followed by an opportunity for discussion.
