News ReleasesGovernor to Announce Student Business Plan Competition Results April 11, 2006USM Student Business Plan Competition results to be announced by Governor Baldacci at the USM Corporate Partners meeting, 7:30 a.m. April 12 at USM's Woodbury Campus Center on Bedford St., Portland. Media are cordially invited to attend the USM Corporate Partners meeting this Wednesday, April 12, where the winning team of the USM student business plan competition will receive their awards from Governor Baldacci. The meeting begins at the Woodbury Campus Center on Bedford St. on the Portland campus at 8 a.m. (breakfast is at 7:30 a.m.) and will conclude by 9 a.m. Each of the five teams in the finals will give a brief overview of their business plans. A total of 21 teams competed for $25,000 in cash and services. Plans developed by the teams in the finals include a consumer energy research corporation, "World Touring Experiences Like No Other," a ready-to-drink iced tea with wellness benefits, a MediCreative functional Internet presence to help bridge the gap between doctors and patients, and Meeting Room.com which combines email and websites to help groups get better organized. This is the fifth year of the competition which has attracted entrants from four universities and colleges - UMF, USM, Univ. of Maine, and SMCC. This is the first year teams from UMF have participated. Designed to promote entrepreneurial spirit, this year's competition's teams were challenged to create and develop an original business idea into a solid business plan. Teams represent the fields of business, accounting, finance, art, economics, sociology, engineering, computer science and applied science. Previous winners have been moving their ideas to market.
