The University of Southern Maine Stonecoast MFA in Creative Writing and Acoustic Coffee are pleased to present an evening of poetry readings by Annie Deppe and Stonecoast MFA faculty member Theodore Deppe at 7 p.m., Tuesday, May 30, at Acoustic Coffee, 32 Danforth Street, Portland. The joint reading by these poets is the final installment of the 2005-06 Stonecoast Reading Series at Acoustic Coffee. The monthly series, which recognizes and shares the wealth of literary talent associated with USM’s Stonecoast MFA in Creative Writing program, will resume in September.

Annie Deppe is the author of “Sitting in the Sky” (Summer Palace Press, Ireland, 2003). She publishes on both sides of the Atlantic in journals such as Poetry Ireland Review, The Shop, and The Recorder. Her work has also been anthologized in the “Forward Book of Poetry 2004” (the English / Irish equivalent of the Pushcart).  She teaches poetry at Eastern Connecticut State University.

Theodore Deppe is the author of three books of poetry, “Children of the Air” (Alice James Books, 1990), “The Wanderer King” (Alice James, 1996), and “Cape Clear: New and Selected Poems” (Salmon Books, Ireland, 2002).  His work has appeared in many journals, including Harper’s Magazine, Poetry, The Kenyon Review, The Southern Review, Poetry Ireland Review, and Ploughshares.  Deppe received a Pushcart Prize and two fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts.  For the last three years, he lived in Ireland, but he returned to the U.S. in the fall of 2004 to serve as writer-in-residence at Phillips Academy, Andover, Mass. He also teaches in the Distance Learning MA program at Lancaster University, England.
