Portland Regional Chamber and USM Muskie School Host Candidates

April 12, 2006

Editor's Note: Please note that candidates have been asked to remain 30 minutes following the debate to speak with the media (from 9 - 9:30 a.m.).

Portland, ME - The first gubernatorial debate of the 2006 election season will be held on Monday, April 24 at the Marriott at Sable Oaks in South Portland from 7 - 9 a.m. as part of Policy Soundings, a public policy forum presented by the Portland Regional Chamber and USM Muskie School of Public Service.

"This will be the first, and perhaps only, opportunity for citizens to hear from all current candidates for Maine's highest office at the same time," said Godfrey Wood, CEO, Portland Regional Chamber. "It will help us understand where each candidate stands on many critical issues."

The event will feature brief self-introductions by the candidates, 2-minute responses to an undisclosed question pertaining to current public policy, and a lighting round of "yes or no" questions, covering a range of topics. All candidates with campaigns certified by the state Commission on Governmental Ethics and Election Practices by March 15, 2006 have been invited to attend.

Registration, due by April 19, is available online at www.portlandregion.com or by calling (207) 772-1196 ext. 228. The registration fee is $16, which includes a full breakfast. Tables of eight are $128.
