News ReleasesDeep Throat's Lawyer to Speak at USM May 3, 2006When W. Mark Felt, a.k.a. Deep Throat, decided to reveal his identity to the public, he did not go it alone. His identity was released in a Vanity Fair article written by his lawyer, John D. O'Connor, who is also the co-author of Felt's recently released book, "A G-Main's Life." O'Connor will give a lecture, "Bring Down A Presidential Administration and You'll Need a Good Lawyer," from 6-7 p.m., Wednesday, May 17, in the University of Southern Maine Hannaford Lecture Hall, Abromson Community Education Center, Bedford St., Portland. A 5:30 p.m. reception will precede the lecture. Tickets are $10 public and $5 seniors/students. It is possible to receive one hour of ethics CLE credit reported to the Maine Board of Overseers of the Bar for $30. O'Connor's article in Vanity Fair revealing Felt as Deep Throat, a fact confirmed by Washington Post reporters Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein, ended the mystery that endured for over 30 years. Woodward had said he would not reveal the identity of Deep Throat until after his death. Felt is viewed as a hero by some and a traitor by others. O'Connor will provide insight into Felt's motivations for becoming the informant whose tips brought down Nixon's presidency, and why he finally agreed to reveal his secret. Editor's Note: |
