News ReleasesUSM To Host Panel on Peaks Island Secession April 28, 2006USM’s Muskie School of Public Service and the Glickman Family Library are hosting a panel discussion that will look at “Self-Governance in Maine: Views from Peaks Island.” Mark Lapping, USM’s first distinguished professor in the Muskie School will speak, followed by a panel discussion with Peaks Island residents Michael Richards and Brenda Buchanan, and Portland City Councilor Ed Suslovic, who will all offer different perspectives on efforts by some Island residents to secede from the City of Portland. The free event will take place at 7 p.m., Tuesday, May 2, on the 7th Floor of the Glickman Library, Forest Ave., Portland. A 6 p.m. reception will precede the program. As Peaks Island residents prepare for a vote on secession from Portland in June.
