USM Panel Addresses Problems of the Uninsured

The University of Southern Maine College of Nursing and Health Professions is hosting a panel in support of National Cover the Uninsured Week. USM graduate nursing students and members of Care Partners will discuss issues faced by the uninsured in greater Portland from 4-6 p.m., Thursday, May 4, in the Woodbury Campus Center Amphitheater, Portland. Among the subjects discussed will be healthcare access for the homeless, medication access and other current options for uninsured and underinsured individuals, families and children. Light refreshments will be served.

Panelists include Carol Zechman, director of Care Partners; Darcy Shargo, Health Care Access Program manager, Maine Primary Care Association; Martha Morrison, MedHelp Maine; Carol Schreck, program manager, Indigent Care, City of Portland Department of Health & Human Services (DHHS); Marty Sabol, program manager, Infectious Disease, City of Portland DHHS; Andrew Lumb, Oral Health Outreach, City of Portland DHHS, Dr. Kolawole Bankole, coordinator, Minority Helath Program, City of Portland. 

Cover the Uninsured Week 2006 is a national effort by The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and other organizations to provide a platform from which Congress will be urged to take federal action to improve access to healthcare for the uninsured and make health coverage for Americans a top priority.
