Multicultural Education Programs

Culturally Responsive Parent Involvment

Culturally Responsive Parental Involvement (funded by the Maine Department of Education in partnership with Southern Maine Parent Awareness)

The goal of this project is to ensure the preparation of education personnel in the Pathway/Newcomer ETEP Program includes effective collaborations between schools and parents (“parents” meaning all types of guardians of students) from multicultural backgrounds and/or parents of children with disabilities, to ensure that parents participate consistently and effectively in their children’s education.
Multicultural Education Programs collaborates with Portland Public Schools and Southern Maine Parent Awareness (SMPA) to create and pilot a tool for determining the training and support needs of parents from multicultural backgrounds in southern Maine, particularly in areas related to special education, and to identify resources to meet those needs.
