Southern Maine Junior Music Academy
Looking for something special to do this summer? Spend a week working with area professionals, and making new friends, at USM's music and theater camps.
For incoming 7th graders to outgoing 8th graders, the popular Junior Music Academy is growing stronger and heading into its 17th season at the University of Southern Maine. The seven-day program draws students from all over New England and gives junior high-age instrumental musicians the opportunity for musical growth and development during the summer.
All academy members will participate in concert band, chorus, instrument sectionals, and small ensembles. Students, who wish, may also audition for jazz band. In addition, academy members will get to enjoy free concerts performed by local professional musicians and one fun-filled night at Funtown in Saco. Directed by George Shabo.
USM offers four separate camps, all of which offer large group, ensemble, and personal instruction from USM faculty and local artists. Visit usm.maine.edu/music/summercamps or call 780-5555 for dates and details, and to register for one of the remaining slots.
