USM Youth Ensembles to Perform Fall Vocal Concert
GORHAM, Maine – The University of Southern Maine (USM) School of Music will present the USM Youth Ensembles in their fall vocal concert next week in Corthell Concert Hall on the USM Gorham campus.
The concert will include the Southern Maine Youth Chorale, conducted by Shannon Chase, and the Southern Maine Children’s Choir, conducted by Paul McGovern. Each group will sing a variety of songs, including festive holiday favorites and audience sing-alongs.
The details of the concert are:
- USM Youth Ensembles Vocal Concert, 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 11 (please note change in concert date and time), Corthell Concert Hall, USM Gorham campus, 37 College Ave., Gorham; $8/$5 suggested donation at the door; open seating; sponsored by Macy’s
The Southern Maine Children’s Choir is comprised of singers in grades four and up, and the Southern Maine Youth Chorale includes singers in grades seven-12. The groups will each perform separately and together will sing “Hope for Revolution,” a traditional American folk tune combined with an African chorus.
Angela Olszta, a USM School of Music student majoring in piano performance, will provide piano accompaniment for each group. Alan Kaschub, director of the USM School of Music, will make a cameo performance on the trumpet.
The concert is sponsored by Macy’s.
The chorale and the choir are open to southern Maine students who enjoy singing. There will be auditions for the spring term on Wednesday, Jan. 8 at the USM School of Music, USM Gorham campus.
