Risk Management at U.S.M. works in close collaboration with all, the UMS Office of Risk Management and our various insurance providers. Services available through U.S.M. Risk Management include; program risk evaluation, general liability coverage, University and rental vehicle physical damage coverage, international travel insurance, special contents insurance, as well as, building and contents fire and loss insurance.

The purpose of Risk Management is to actively manage the University’s loss exposures by identifying the types of accidental losses faced by the University, analyzing the different types and sizes of these loss exposures and deciding how to handle and finance these losses. It is done by using a combination of commercial insurance, self-insurance, risk avoidance, risk transfers and effective claim management. We recognized that the University by its nature is a constantly changing dynamic entity. Our aim is to protect the University and enable it to accomplish its educational, social and economic missions.
