Former Huskies’ baseball player and graduate of the University of Southern Maine Dr. Micky Collins – an internationally renowned expert in sports-related concussion – will be giving a presentation on his area of expertise and study on Saturday, September 27. The University of Southern Maine Department of Athletics will be hosting Dr. Collins this Saturday at the Costello Sports Complex’s Alumni Reception Room. Dr. Collins’ program will begin at 8:30 a.m. and will be followed by a question and answer period at 9:30 a.m. Prior to the program there will be a brief social and continental breakfast from 8:00 to 8:30 a.m.
Former Husky standout student-athletes Julie Plant (basketball, softball) and Jeff Bowers (basketball) will be inducted in to the third class of the Little East Conference Hall of Fame. The ceremony will be held on October 26 in Providence, R.I. Plant and Bowers will join a growing list of USM athletics representatives in the LEC Hall of Fame including former basketball players Ashley Marble and Joanna Brown, women's basketball coach Gary Fifield, baseball coach Ed Flaherty, former Athletic Director Dr. Richard Costello and current AD Al Bean.
Alum Mark York will serve as the Huskies' first Strength & Conditioning Coach
A graduate of the University of Southern Maine with a degree in Health Fitness, York has been employed as a personal trainer and Assistant Fitness and Wellness Coordinator at the Costello Sports Complex Fitness Center since his graduation in 2007. No stranger to USM athletics and its athletes and their desire to compete at the highest possible level, York has a vested interest in the success of all of the 450 student-athletes in the program.
