The Muskie School of Public Service is Maine’s distinguished public policy school, combining an extensive applied research and technical assistance portfolio with rigorous undergraduate and graduate degree programs in geography-anthropology, community planning and development (CPD), public health (MPH), and public policy and management (PPM). The school is nationally recognized for applying innovative knowledge to critical issues in the fields of sustainable development and health and human service policy and management, and is home to the Cutler Institute for Health and Social Policy.

Judy Tupper, director of the Patient Safety Academy and faculty in the graduate program of public health at the USM Muskie School, writes an op-ed in the Portland Press Herald on September 22 about the new initiative announced at the 5th Annual Patient Safety Academy to “crowd source” a patient safety improvement idea – the promotion of a “No News is No News” campaign to educate and inform consumers about the importance of following up on test results.

This year the Patient Safety Academy, which was held on the USM Portland campus September 5th, provided opportunity for healthcare professionals, students, and organizations to showcase their patient safety best practices.
The 5th Annual Patient Safety Academy has announced the recipients of the 2014 Rising Tide Award, inaugurated in 2013, which recognizes peer nominated individuals or organizations that advance patient safety within Maine through their leadership, dedication, and innovation. Recipients of the 2014 Rising Tide Award were Angela Dubuc, Director of Clinical Practice at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, and the Maine State Nurses Association.
