We have strong community relationships throughout Southern Maine and on campus. We can connect you and support your along the way to help you gain valuable experience, develop global citizenship skills, give back to the community, and apply and explore your academic and career interests.
You can get involved and develop your skills in a variety of ways:
- Career development - Career Services at USM provides career education and professional development for USM students. We will assist you wherever you are on your career path. Contact us for help with your career questions, whether you need help writing your first resume, applying for graduate school, or interviewing for a job or internship.
- Internships - Internships are offered through most departments and majors. They provide rich experience and learning. We can help connect you with the best person to reach your academic and career goals, help you prepare for the internship experience, and explore connections to academic programs for credit and paid internships outside the university.
- Volunteering - Our office offers involvement in several ongoing community volunteer programs and annual community service events. We can also connect you to organizations or other USM volunteer opportunities that match your skills and/or interests.
- Service-Learning Courses - Many USM classes incorporate community-based and/or service- learning. If you learn best by doing, look for classes and academic programs that include engaged learning opportunities.
