Talk on Arab Spring planned for October 3
The World Affairs Council of Maine and the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at USM are pleased to welcome Dr. Mary-Jane Deeb, Chief of the African and Middle Eastern Division at the Library of Congress and a frequent media commentator. She will speak on the Arab Spring on Monday, Oct. 3. The event will take place in room 133 of Wishcamper Center from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. A reception will precede the lecture at 5:30 p.m.
Dr. Deeb will discuss the origins of the Arab revolutions and what the future might look like in the countries affected. She will address the reasons for the current revolutions. She will present some of the underlying causes and earlier (failed) attempts at changing the sociopolitical conditions in the region
that have set the stage for what we are witnessing today.
