Gerontology Certificate Scholarship

OLLI LogoThe Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at USM (OLLI) is now providing a partial scholarship for the academic year 2014-2015. The scholarship will be awarded to one in-state, non-degree student at the rate of $500 per course for a total of $2,500. This will allow one student to complete the entire 15 credit Online Gerontology Certificate Program using the partial scholarship.

  • Award Criteria
    • Accepted and enrolled in USM’s Online Gerontology Certificate Program
    • In-state resident
    • Non-degree student (non-matriculated USM student)
    • Willing to complete the entire 15 credit gerontology certificate in one year
    • Interested in dedicating their career to working with older adults
    • At the completion of the certificate, the student must be willing to either meet with the USM OLLI Board of Directors or write a letter describing the benefits received from the certificate and scholarship

  • Award Restrictions
    • Nonrenewable
    • Restricted to in-state and non-degree students

  • Fiscal Considerations
    • Total award of $2,500
    • Award will be distributed on a per course basis, $500 per course at the time of course registration/payment

  • Required Application Materials
    • A 2-paged double-spaced student essay describing why you wish to pursue a gerontology certificate and your career plans for working with older adults
    •  Two letters of recommendations (cannot come from family or friends)
  • Application Process
    • Applicants should send the required materials to:

    • Gerontology faculty will review candidates and make a selection
    • Application deadline is May 1, 2014
    • Applicants will be notified by June 1, 2014
