Hosted by the USM School of Education and Human Development Advisory Council, the two-hour event includes a keynote address by education expert and author Bea McGarvey, virtual tour of school districts in action using customized learning, a question and answer session, and a book signing after the presentation. Contact hours are available.
A Maine native and USM alumna, McGarvey dedicated a 30-year career to Maine schools. She has served in the past decade as a distinguished education consultant for more than 100 schools and districts, as well as state and federal education agencies, specifically in the areas of teaching and learning, leadership, and organizational development. Currently, she is a partner in Total Leaders Associates and a senior associate at Marzano Research Lab. McGarvey is co-author with Charles Schwahn of the recently published “Inevitable: Mass Customized Learning - Learning in the Age of Empowerment.”
Chinese Teacher Education Program
The Chinese Teacher Education Program for K-12 educators will provide an opportunity for K-12 educators to become proficient in Mandarin Chinese, earn K-12 World Language Teacher Certification, and to use that coursework as a concentration in a 33 credit master’s degree program for teachers or a 30 credit post-masters Certificate of Advanced Study.
