Want to improve your students’ reading and writing? Want to engage their interest when introducing new concepts? No problem! Storytelling is a natural and fun way to integrate academic and life skills into your curriculum, and to encourage imagining minds. We will learn to tell a story and then explore ways to integrate storytelling into the curriculum (kids telling stories, kids creating stories and curriculum integration). We will look at the importance of storytelling as an educational tool in general, as a literacy and motivational tool specifically, as a methodology to teach across the curriculum, the social-emotional benefits of storytelling and the importance of multi-modality learning. Energize your teaching and have fun doing it! Highly participatory! Come prepared to explore, laugh, reflect, push your edges, move your bodies, and have fun! Wear loose, comfortable clothes. Improvisational theatre and movement exercises will be an integral part of the course.
