This is a one credit course intended to enhance the course work of individuals pursuing a professional clinical mental health license in the state of Maine.  It is not intended for students in the USM Counseling Program.  This course provides students the opportunity to pursue a project independently, planning and exploring an area of interest within the field of counseling.  The course is designed to specifically examine the historical roots of mental health counseling as well as the professional associations in the field, all within the context of professional identity and the course project should reflect this focus.  Projects are intended to be library based; all are intellectually sound and reflect a high caliber of performance.  The specific content of each student’s project will be determined at the beginning of the course in conjunction with the instructor.
