In this class, learners will gain knowledge of how to be an effective Paraprofessional. The Autism continuum will be examined and learners will recognize the 5 major characteristics that constitute Autism. Teacher expectation and responsibilities will be discussed and summarized. The learner will attend a make and take visual supports class and be responsible for developing and presenting a project that will reflect supports offered in their classroom. Completion of this course qualifies towards Maine Special Education Certification Face-to-Face Class Requirements: There are three face-to-face classes scheduled for this course (schedule to be arranged at start of course). These classes are held at the York County Community College in Wells, Maine. Under special circumstances, if travel presents a hardship, students may request an alternative site. Approval by the instructor before the course begins is necessary (CARDNH@maine.rr.com). Completion of this course qualifies towards Maine Special Education Certification.
Chinese Teacher Education Program
The Chinese Teacher Education Program for K-12 educators will provide an opportunity for K-12 educators to become proficient in Mandarin Chinese, earn K-12 World Language Teacher Certification, and to use that coursework as a concentration in a 33 credit master’s degree program for teachers or a 30 credit post-masters Certificate of Advanced Study.
