This summer institute is designed to provide students with a week-long immersion experience in a topic selected because of its significance to student affairs in higher education. Topics addressed are those that have been identified as timely by student affairs professional organizations and/or highlighted in recent student affairs literature. The topics for the institute and the faculty to teach it will change each summer. Recent institutes have covered assessment in student affairs, legal issues in student affairs, and academic advising. The institute is required for students concentrating in student affairs as part of their adult education master’s program. Cr 3.
- To understand the evolution of self-authorship and how it supports college students in achieving college learning outcomes.
- To implement the Learning Partnerships Model in conceptualizing developmentally sequenced educational practice.
- To gain insight into our own developmental journeys and their implications for our professional practice.
Nature of the Institute
This institute explores how college students construct themselves through the meaning they make of their experience. Individuals actively construct their sense of self, their sense of self in relation to other people and how they know (cognitive dimension).
Understanding learners’ developmental capacities and the conditions that support their evolution is a foundation for organizing educational practice to promote learning and development.
One Day Institute
As part of the week long course, Marcia B. Baxter Magolda will also be presenting a one-day workshop on July 15, 2013. If you wish to attend only the one-day workshop please click here.
