This participatory course examines the phenomenon of death in modern society, with a special emphasis on implications for older persons. Harvesting perennial wisdom using artistic and spiritual resources, issues such as the meaning of death, the dying process, and survivorship are treated. Special attention is paid to the role of the professional in death education and developing leadership skills in elder care. Cr. 3.
Jacob Watson, D.Min. is an Interfaith minister and Hospice Chaplain. He helped start the Center for Grieving Children and the Chaplaincy Institute of Maine. He was a grief counselor and senior staff member of the Elisabeth Kubler-Ross Center. He teaches Healing and Spirituality at the College of Nursing at the University of Southern Maine. Jacob is a graduate of the University of Creation Spirituality and the Chaplaincy Institute for Arts and Interfaith Ministries. He is the author of Morning Blessing Letters and several articles on grief and spiritual care.
