The country's largest and oldest interdisciplinary honor society

Phi Kappa Phi is a national Honor Society which was founded to recognize and encourage superior scholarship in all academic disciplines. The National Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi originated in 1897 at the University of Maine, where Chapter No. 1 is still active. It remains one of the most selective honor societies in the country.

The University of Southern Maine Chapter #173
was established in 1975 by the National Office of Phi Kappa Phi after careful examination of our programs and resources by the National Office. The students invited to join Phi Kappa Phi are of the highest academic standing among their peers.

Phi Kappa Phi is now active on nearly 300 campuses across the US, Puerto Rico, and the Phillipines. More than 1 million members have been initiated since Phi Kappa Phi's founding. Every year, Phi Kappa Phi awards over $700,000 to outstanding members and chapters.

Phi Kappa Phi is a recognized member of the Association of College Honor Societies (ACHS), which is the nation's only certifying agency for college and university honor societies.
