Please join us on Thursday for a very special event! The Summer King in Winter: A Panel Discussion on Integration and the Demise of the Negro Baseball Leagues Thursday, March 6; 5-5:30 p.m. Reception, Abromson Education Center mezzanine 5:30 p.m., Event, Talbot Auditorium, Luther Bonney Hall, Free and open to the public! Featuring an aria performance from the new opera, “The Summer King” by Dan Sonenberg, USM Associate Professor of Music and Resident Composer Presentations and discussions by Leroy M. Rowe, USM assistant professor of African American history and politics; Bob Greene, well-known Maine sports journalist; and Gerald Talbot, Maine’s first African-American state representative. Bringing together performers, historians and Maine dignitaries, the event will tell the story of African-American baseball players and the impact that integration had on both the Negro-League and professional sport in Maine and across the U.S. Event attendees will have the opportunity to purchase “The Summer King” tickets at a very-reduced price!
