Lynelle Philbrick of Auburn, bookstore manager at the University of Southern Maine’s Lewiston-Auburn College (LAC), was presented USM’s Distinguished Professional Staff Award at the annual President’s Opening Breakfast earlier this semester.
Philbrick has served as bookstore manager on USM’s LAC campus since 1998. She holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from USM and master’s degree in leadership studies from USM LAC.
Recipients for the award are chosen for their recognized excellence in their professional area, leadership and initiative in fulfilling USM’s mission, active contribution to the USM community, expression of creativity through program initiatives, special projects, writing or similar work, pubic service outside of USM and for service as a role model and mentor to others.
Her colleagues nominated Philbrick for her efforts to save students money and promote excellent customer service, her thoughtful and creative contributions to USM, her commitment to student success and passion for promoting higher education. Philbrick was recognized particularly for her work as project manager for LAC’s 25th Anniversary reception and as a key player in organizing LAC’s first alumni event.
LAC Dean Joyce T. Gibson noted, “She is a genius at problem solving and always has a better idea for us to consider, especially to serve students better. She is an outstanding manager, who is fair, respectful to all and demonstrates student-centeredness in all she does.”
Philbrick was also recognized for her work volunteering for the Office of Community Engagement and leading the Sunshine Club at LAC, helping to lead LAC’s efforts to cultivate a Continuous Improvement/LEAN culture and her active participation as a citizen, parent and community member in Lewiston-Auburn area.
