Lynn I. Poor of Lewiston was presented the University of Southern Maine Distinguished Classified Staff Award at the annual President’s Opening Breakfast earlier this semester.
The award is given annually to a member of USM’s classified staff who demonstrates an outstanding level of knowledge and performance in support of the University and the greater community. The recipient is nominated by his or her colleagues. In 2011, Poor won the Emerging Classified Staff Award, presented to those with less than five year’s employment at the university.
Poor is an administrative specialist, level 2, in the Office of Student Success at Lewiston-Auburn College (LAC). She has been with USM since 2007 and previously served in College of Nursing and Health Professions. She holds a Bachelor’s degree from USM in natural and applied sciences and is currently pursuing her Master of Science degree in adult and higher education at USM.
Her peers nominated her for “always looking for new ways to get the job done better and more efficiently,” her initiative and follow-through. Poor was recognized for commitment to education, customer service to students and faculty, leadership and the enthusiasm she brings to her position.
She is a member of the Maine Council of Reflexologists, the Reflexology Association of America and the International Council of Reflexologists. Poor is active on campus as a member of the LAC Student Conduct Committee, the USM Academic Integrity Board and the LAC Community Advisory Board.
“Lynn dedicates herself to ensuring that we are providing the best service possible to our students,” said Jim Bradley, staff associate for Teacher Education and Student Success, in his nomination of Poor, “and her wealth of knowledge and expertise is continually relied upon by all of the SSC staff who work with her.”
