The University of Southern Maine School of Nursing has received a $320,000 bequest from the estate of USM Professor Emerita of Nursing Martha Skoner, who taught at USM from 1987-1999. Funds will be used for scholarships and to support the operation of the School of Nursing.
USM’s School of Nursing, with 545 students, is the largest in Maine and educates 42 percent of Maine RNs who hold four-year degrees. The school offers several four-year degree options, master’s degree programs, and a Doctor of Nursing Practice.
Professor Skoner held a B.S. in nursing education, a master’s of nursing education and a Ph.D. in nursing, all from the University of Pittsburgh in her home state of Pennsylvania. She held academic positions at the University of Pittsburgh, the University of Missouri and finally, the University of Southern Maine.
