University of Southern Maine’s Office of Multicultural Student Affairs is planning a community celebration to recognize the academic achievements of nearly 200 graduating multicultural and international students from USM, the UMaine School of Law, Southern Maine Community College, and the University of New England. The ceremony will be held at 5:30 p.m., Thursday, May 9, in USM’s Hannaford Hall located in the Abromson Community Education Center, Bedford St., Portland.
The event is free and open to the public, and a reception of light refreshments featuring international cuisines will follow.
The celebration will include multicultural performances showcasing the cultures of Rwandan, Indian (Bollywood), Serbian, and Afghan students, among others. USM President Theodora J. Kalikow and SMCC President Ron Cantor will attend.
Prudential Financial of South Portland and a University of Maine System Diversity Grant funded the celebration. The USM Office of Multicultural Student Affairs offers support and co-curricular services to multicultural students at USM’s three campuses.
