Environmental Science and Policy Professor Travis Wagner is working on a solid waste recycling plan for South Portland and Scarborough. The new plan was covered by both the Portland Press Herald and Maine Public.

The pilot programs will introduce food waste collection for free in select neighborhoods. The goal is “to reduce the amount of waste sent to an incinerator or landfill,” according to the Portland Press Herald.
