The University of Southern Maine was again named “A Best College in the Northeast” according to the nationally known education services company, The Princeton Review.

The Princeton Review highlights many of university features, such as student body and campus life, using surveys of students.

Among the comments about USM are the following: Many students are residents of surrounding areas, but "there is no typical student at USM. There are thousands of traditional college-aged students. Commuters who attend part-time and older students with jobs and families are a large percentage of the population,” said one USM student. When it comes to the campuses, it is said, “The two main campuses of mid-sized, cost-effective University of Southern Maine are about 10 miles apart, and they bridge a country town and a city." Many students live in dorms on the Gorham campus with shuttle buses available at no charge.

USM also has a campus in Lewiston. The Lewiston-Auburn College provides undergraduate and graduate degrees through its unique interdisciplinary curriculum.

Founded in 1981, The Princeton Review is a privately held education services company headquartered in Framingham, Mass. The company also provides test preparation services, tutoring and admissions resources, online courses, and more than 150 print and digital books published by Random House, Inc.
