USM Music alumna Megan Marino ‘05 and husband featured in Boulder Daily Camera article on international success as opera singers

Megan Marino and Michael Mayes

On July 15, the Boulder Daily Camera featured USM alumna Megan Marino ‘05 and her husband, Michael Mayes, baritone—both internationally touring opera singers who reside in Lyons, Colorado.

Marino, a mezzo-soprano, is currently starring as Despina in Central City Opera House’s Summer Festival main stage production of Mozart’s comedic opera, “Cosi fan tutte,” while her husband portrays Escamillo in the Opera House’s Summer Festival production of George Bizet’s “Carmen,” both running through August 6.

The article highlights the couple’s international achievements, which have allowed them to build a life in the place they love most—the Rockies.

"We've talked to other people in the business, and they've always said, 'Find a place that you love. A place where you can relax and recuperate after months of living in a suitcase,'" Marino said.

The pair are enjoying their opportunity to spend the summer months together in Colorado before departing for productions in different cities this fall.
