USM Recognizes Scholarship Students

The following USM students were awarded scholarships for 2012-2013 academic year. Recipients are listed below in alphabetical order by hometown.

Berwick:
Heather McAtavey, a therapeutic recreation student, was awarded the James V. Sullivan Recreation and Leisure Studies Scholarship.  She is a 2007 graduate of Noble High School and the daughter of John and Rhoda McAtavey, also of Berwick.

Brownfield:
Corrie Blodgett, a resident of Brownfield and an extended teacher education student, was awarded the NSF Robert Noyce Scholarship.  Blodgett, a 2000 graduate of Springfield High School in Vermont, is the daughter of Gary and Marilee Blodgett of Ludlow, Vt.

Caribou:
Casey M. Nichols, a nursing student, was awarded the USM School of Nursing Alumni Scholarship. Nichols, a 2011 Caribou High School graduate, is the daughter of Peggy and Tracey Nichols.

Chebeague Island:
Claire M. Ross, a nursing student, was awarded the Lunder Scholarship and the Boyne Family Scholarship. 

Gorham:
Rachel Bukoveckas, a mechanical engineering student, was awarded the Texas Instruments Mechanical Engineering Scholarship. Bukoveckas, a 2009 Sacopee High School graduate, is the daughter of Walter and Michele Bukoveckas.

Jessica Portlock, a nursing student, was awarded the Mabel Skillin Nursing Scholarship and was inducted into the Golden Key International Honor Society and the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society.  Portlock, a 2008 graduate of Gorham High School, is the daughter of Nicholas and Paula Portlock, also of Gorham.

Hollis:
Samuel Lindauer, an extended teacher education student, received the Robert J. Noyce Scholarship. Lindauer is a 2005 graduate of Wells High School and 2009 graduate of McGill University. He is the son of Saul and Sari Lindauer, also of Hollis.  

Richmond:
Eben Dushin Baker, a master’s in education student in the Extended Teacher Education Program (ETEP), was awarded the NSF Robert Noyce Scholarship. Baker, a 2002 Richmond High School graduate, is the son of Bruce Baker and Bonnie Dushin.

Saco:
Isaac Gagnon, a general management student, was awarded the Electa McLain Brown Scholarship. Gagnon, a 2005 Thornton Academy graduate, is the son of Rita Gagnon and the late Timothy Gagnon.

Maria Popescu, a chemistry and psychology double major student, was awarded the 2012 Outstanding Senior in Chemistry Award and the 2012 Department of Psychology Academic Achievement Award. Popescu, a 2008 graduate of Assumption Catholic Secondary School, Burlington, Ontario, Canada, is the daughter of Catalin Octavian Popescu and Cristina Popescu, both of Saco.

South Berwick:
Karyn N. Maguire, an education student, was awarded the NSF Robert Noyce Scholarship and was inducted into the Phi Kappa Phi National Honor Society. Maguire, a 1987 graduate of Andover High School, Andover, Mass., is the daughter of Karen and Darrell Bates, of South Berwick.  She and her husband Fred Maguire also reside in South Berwick.

Standish:
Jean Falkner, an extended teacher education student, was awarded the NSF Robert Noyce Scholarship. Falkner, a 1993 Osseo Senior High School graduate who also attended Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. She and her spouse, Shawn Falkner, reside in Standish.

Topsham:
Brian Christopher Choate, a general sciences student, was awarded the NSF Robert Noyce Scholarship. Choate, a 1998 Brunswick High School graduate, is the husband of Jessica Choate.

Windham:
Katrice Dorothy Kelley, a business administration student, was awarded the School of Business Scholarship. Kelley, a 2006 Bonny Eagle High School graduate who also attended the University of Maine, is the wife of Timothy S. Kelley Jr. of Windham. 

Winslow:
Katie Lynn Irwin, a nursing student, was awarded the Viola Palmacci Nursing Scholarship. Irwin, a 2009 Winslow High School graduate, is the daughter of Paul and Louise Irwin.

MASSACHUSETTS

Lanesborough:
Dara Kristin Wentworth, an accounting student, was inducted into the Golden Key Honors Society and awarded the Daniel L. Nickerson Memorial Scholarship and the USM School of Business Scholarship. Wentworth, a 1999 Mt. Greylock Regional High School graduate, is the partner of Sebastian Okun, a University of Maine Law student, and the daughter of Stephen Wentworth and Marthanne Donaldson of Lanesborough, Mass., and Marie and Frank Small of Bennington, Vt.
