WMPG-FM (90.9 and 104.1), USM’s community radio station, is very close to improving the strength of the 90.9 FM broadcast signal. Over $175,000 has already been raised for the purchase and installation of the necessary components for the power upgrade. The station needs to raise less than $50,000 to cover the final costs of the project.
To reach that goal, WMPG, is planning an on-air mini-drive to raise Power Up funds on Tuesday and Wednesday, June 14 and 15. Call the Begathon Hotline at 874-3000 between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. to contribute. The fundraising goal for this on-air campaign is $10,000, which will be matched by a $10,000 grant to make every donated dollar go farther. Weather permitting, there will also be a yard sale and cookout from 12 noon to 5 p.m. on Tuesday, June 15 at the station on USM’s Portland campus at 92 Bedford St. Yard sale items include vintage WMPG tshirts, and CDs, and LPs.
The Power Up Project will bring WMPG’s signal to all of southern Maine with a clear, strong radio broadcast in fall of 2011. Donations to support the Power Up Project may be made any time at www.wmpg.org.
