WMPG (90.9 and 104.1 FM), Southern Maine Community Radio broadcasting from the University of Southern Maine, has successfully completed a signal improvement project and is now reaching radios from southern York County to the Augusta area, and west to Central New Hampshire. The project was completed through years of planning, fund-raising, and hard work by a corps of over 250 volunteers and a small management staff.
To celebrate this important milestone, WMPG is holding a daylong “Power Up! Open House” with the theme of “Same Community Radio…. MUCH More Community!” from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. on Saturday, January 21 at the station, 92 Bedford St. on USM’s Portland campus. Special programming including with live music, voices from the past, and live and recorded calls from the station’s newly expanded listening area will be broadcast. Refreshments and lunch will be provided, as well as giveaways, a raffle, station tours and the opportunity to meet WMPG volunteer on-air personalities.
