Upward Bound RSU Refunded

The University of Southern Maine was successful in securing funding for it's  Upward Bound project to serve 64 low income and-or first generation students per year in three southern Maine high schools, Bonny Eagle, Massabesic, and Sacopee Valley. There are 2,639 students attending these schools of which 1099 students or 42 percent, qualify for free or reduced price meals and are therefore considered low-income. In addition, a large number of students would likely be first generation college students as in the sixteen communities served only 21 percent of the adults over 25 years of age have earned a bachelor's degree. Operating since 1996, this project has a proven track record of success.
