The mission of the Office of Research Administration and Development is to promote and support research, scholarship and creative activity; to assist faculty, staff and students in obtaining intramural and extramural support; to serve as an advocate for the value of research at USM; and to encourage the use of research, scholarship and creative activity to enrich education, enhance commercialization and development, and to serve the community.
The Office serves as the central coordination point for all research, scholarship and creative activity services including the Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP), and the Office of Research Integrity and Outreach (ORIO). This includes the oversight of facilities and equipment (including research labs and supporting spaces), equipment purchase and maintenance, and the operation of an animal facility.
The Office of Sponsored Programs provides leadership to administration, faculty, staff and students in exploring research opportunities, proposal development and grant management.
The Office of Research Integrity and Outreach provides leadership with issues of research involving human subjects or animals, and research involving chemicals, radioisotopes and biological materials.
History of Research Administration:
The Office of Research Administration and Development was created in June 2002 to lead USM´s expansion of research and development programs, and to build the university´s capacity to perform high-quality research that promotes academic excellence and stimulates regional economic growth.
