Research Council

The Research Council advocates for and makes recommendations about policies, structures, communication, funding and other factors that support faculty, research staff and students. The Council communicates faculty and research staff interests, abilities, and ambitions to the Provost and the Associate Vice President for Research, Scholarship and Creative Activity [RSCA] and keeps faculty and research staff informed on initiatives and issues relevant to USM’s research mission.


The bylaws established the Research Council as a body that:

*Promotes a culture at USM through active engagement and communication with stakeholders within and outside USM that embraces research, creative and scholarly activity (RCSA) as fundamental to the mission of the University.

*Advocates for and makes recommendations about policies, structures, communication, funding and other factors that support faculty, research staff and students. The Council communicates faculty and research staff interests, abilities, and ambitions to the Provost and the Associate Vice President for Research, Scholarship and Creative Activity [RSCA] and keeps faculty and research staff informed on initiatives and issues relevant to USM’s research mission.

*Reviews and proposes policy regarding RCSA, its funding, its relation to graduate and undergraduate degree programs, and its service to the community; to identify sources of support for the full range of creative work by faculty, research staff, and students; to stimulate partnerships and synergistic interaction between units on and off campus; and to identify barriers to sponsored and unsponsored research, creative, and scholarly activity and propose strategies to eliminate them.
