**REQUESTING A ROOM CHANGE FOR SPRING 2010**

  • Monday, November 2nd, Room Change Freeze begins. Only administrative moves will be allowed.
  • Available spaces for the spring 2010 semester will be posted on a list in the Residential Life office in 100 Upton Hall beginning on Wednesday, November 18th. The list will be updated daily as more cancellations and room change requests come in.
  • A yellow Housing Reassignment Request form must be picked up from, and returned to, Residential Life in 100 Upton Hall. Completed forms are due no later than noon on Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2009.
  • By requesting to move to a different room for the spring semester, you are giving up your current space. Please note that room rates vary depending on the space you choose to move into. Please check our web site at www.usm.maine.edu/reslife/RoomandBoard.htm for current room rates.
  • Once your room assignment is changed, it cannot be altered, i.e., if you do not receive the space you want, you cannot go back to your old room or make other changes.
  • We may not be able to honor your specific room change request, but you will be receive some type of on-campus housing for the spring semester. Your old space will be posted as an available space on the list in the Residential Life office.
  • This is NOT a first come, first served process (with one exception - see information for Friday, December 4th below). Applying earlier does not guarantee you will be assigned to your requested space. You will be assigned to a vacancy according to the priorities below.

COMPLETED ROOM REASSIGNMENT FORMS ARE DUE
NO LATER THAN NOON ON WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 2, 2009!

Reassignments to a new room for the spring semester will be made using the following priorities:

* Priority #1: Mutual roommate request
If you have a friend or friends who have a confirmed (as defined by Residential Life) vacancy in their room/suite/apartment, they must sign your yellow Housing Reassignment Request form before you turn it in

Priority #2: Students living in a non-voluntary over-occupied room (temporary triple)
To move out of a non-voluntary temporary triple room to any space available in your current hall. Students
still living in non-voluntary temporary triples must take part in this process if they want to break their triple down.

Priority #3: Move within current hall

Priority #4: Move to a different hall

With each priority listed above, if more than one person within the same priority requests the same space, requests will be considered according to earned credit hours as of spring 2009.

Available spaces left after this reassignment process will be posted in 100 Upton Hall on Friday, December 4th. The office is open 8am to 4:30pm. These will be assigned on a first come, first served basis that day. After Friday, room reassignments will be finished! We will then begin assigning new students to spring housing.

If you have been reassigned, you must check out of your old room by signing the Room Inventory Form with your RA and turning in your key. Complete a Resident Action Form with your spring Resident Director, and check in to your new room, which completes the process of your move.

Exchange Programs: If you are requesting a roommate for spring who has been on exchange this fall, you must contact the Department of Residential Life prior to submitting a Housing Reassignment Request form.

Paid Single Requests: Paid singles (double as singles) will not be offered at this time for spring semester. Double check with Residential Life after the first two weeks of spring semester to see if this option will be available at a later date. NOTE to those students who paid for doubles as singles in the fall: your double-as-single does NOT carry over to spring semester. You may be assigned a new roommate for spring.

Commuters/New Admits Moving on for Spring: Commuter students and new admits are not eligible to take part in this process. They will be assigned at a later date by the Department of Residential Life & Resident Education.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
If you are moving to a different room for the spring semester, you must remove your belongings from your current room and return your old key prior to leaving in December, and no later than December 18th at 9:00 am.
